New drop off location for mats/bags

PLEASE NOTE: this location is now closed (as of August 2017). See entry for 18 June, 2017, for suggestion on what to do with your milkbags, if you can’t find a school or group who need bags.

I’m very very pleased to pass along the following information, from Mr James McLaren:

I can offer a new spot to drop off completed mats. It is in the trailer parked in the driveway at my house, 2459 Carlsen Ave. If the trailer happens to be away there is a deck box they can be put in. Please see the attachment for more information. This will work until the late fall (when I need my trailer for other things). At that point we’ll figure something out. I’m planning to take a load to Mississauga in late August.

This is roughly between the big Canada Post building (Heron/Riverside) and Heron/Bank. Thank you so much, Mr McLaren!

Where can I drop off milk bags in Ottawa please?

    • My apologies for the delayed response. I’d had a similar query a week earlier and intended to pass along those details via this website. It’s just taken longer than expected … But today (18 June 2017), there is a new post, which gives links to information on where to leave bags.
The short answer is: check out your local Metro store! One of the links in the post is to the City of Ottawa’s `Take it Back’ page on plastic bags. That lists not only stores that take plastic bags (which includes our favourite milkbag) but also their phone nos. So call ahead — it may mean talking to the manager, as the cashiers may not be aware of the store’s policy or where their bin is located.

hi, we were wondering if we can deliver mats in March or if this drop-off location will be closed by then

    • As mentioned in the post, the drop-off location was only available until the late fall. As it was, the trailer only left Ottawa on 19 December. We haven’t heard back on whether it will become available again later this year (2017), so for now, we’re asking people to store their mats and bags at home or wherever they can, until a new location can be found.

Are you still accepting milk bag mats? I have about 20 that I can deliver to 2459 Carlsen Ave by end of Nov.

    • Yes! The trailer will be moving out in mid-December (I’ll post details once I have them). At present, there is still lots of room so yes, please, do take them to the Carlsen Ave address.

      • I’ve covered this in a post dated 18 June, 2017. Essentially, we’re chock-a-block with bags (I’m speaking about the Barrhaven area). So for now, we’re suggesting people take their bags to their local Metro store, which _does_ do recycling of plastic bags. All plastic bags — way more than just the outer milkbag wrapper bag. Hope this helps. As soon as we have a need again, I’ll certainly post something here!

I’ve also inserted this info at the top of this blog entry, along with a link to the 18 June blog entry.
